It is sad to think about the fact that children all over America will wake up on Christmas morning and have nothing under the tree. Many parents are faced with choosing between paying for necessities like rent and utilities. Food and of course gifts go to the bottom of the priority list. The Salvation Army in Aurora provides gifts; toys, clothes and food for over 2000 families during the holiday season. Some of the toys included Legos, bicycles, iPods, Barbies, and even gift cards. All the clothing is new with the tags still on.
Carrie Moore, an Adigo volunteer, said, “As a mother of 4 kids, I can’t imagine knowing I didn’t have gifts for them to open on Christmas morning. I have always been incredibly blessed with help from family to provide my kids with a nice Christmas. It felt so good knowing we were helping deliver gifts to kids that otherwise wouldn’t have anything. It has to be very humiliating for these parents to stand in line to get the gifts instead of shopping so I made sure I looked each one in the eye, and wished them a Merry Christmas. I also loved taking my 15 year old daughter. She said it was a very humbling experience and one she will never forget.”
Entire communities benefit from the efforts of each individual volunteer and helps the Salvation Army fulfill their mission of “Doing the Most Good”. To learn of the volunteer opportunities in your area simply go https://volunteer.usawest.org/Home.aspx and enter your zip code.
