On September 29, 2013, several members of Adigo’s Denver Operations Team braved the cold temperatures, tightened up their shoelaces, and set off in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
According to the U.S. Cancer Statistics Working Group, over 211,000 women and over 2,000 men were diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 (the most recent data available). It is the number one type of cancer among all women.
Proceeds from the Race for the Cure support uninsured and underinsured breast cancer victims and help fund cancer research. 75% of the net income from each race stays in the sponsoring community to support local programs that offer breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment. So those walking or running in the Denver event could feel very good about helping their own neighbors and community.
As Heather, one of the participants from Adigo’s Denver Operations Team put it, “Participating in the Susan G. Komen race was such a privilege. I walked to honor those close to me who have been impacted by breast cancer and to show my daughter how important it is to be involved in giving back to the community in which you live. I love working for a company that works with their employees to help sponsor these worthwhile community activities!”
Lisa, another of the Adigo Denver Operations Team participants, said, “I think it was very sobering to see the amount of breast cancer survivors and also the people who participated in honor of someone else. So many were wearing names or carrying signs for their loved ones. The most touching thing I saw was a man who brought with him a life size cut out of someone very special to him. He made angel wings and decorated her. It’s a beautiful thing to see so many people come together, united for one cause.”
With a cause this worthwhile, a chilly day couldn’t stop the warm hearts of these participants. Giving back to the community has always been a personal value and corporate commitment for Adigo. We’re extremely proud of the Denver Operations Team members who joined this cause, and of all of our staff, who so often get involved to make a positive difference in the lives of others!
